Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?
Close, not identical. Letters, reports, CVs and contracts convert very well. Magazine layouts, forms and complicated tables keep all their text, but may need tidying. A PDF stores letters at positions on a page, not paragraphs and tables, so SafeMerge works the structure out from the layout.
Can it convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Yes. Scanned pages are read with OCR in your browser, so they become editable text. English only for now. Check names and numbers afterwards, and note that pictures on scanned pages are not copied.
Does it work with languages other than English?
Text in Latin-alphabet languages usually converts well. Some PDFs in non-Latin scripts and right-to-left languages don't store their letters in a readable way, so words may come out wrong. SafeMerge warns you when it spots this. Scanned pages are read in English only.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser, so contracts, CVs and statements never leave your device.
What about password-protected PDFs?
Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then convert.
Are my files uploaded?
No. SafeMerge runs entirely in your browser. Your files are read and changed on your own device and are never sent to any server, including ours.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded you can turn off Wi-Fi and it keeps working. In Chrome or Edge you can also install SafeMerge as an app from the address bar.
Is it free?
Yes, with no sign-up, watermarks or file limits. Ads and donations pay for the site. Very large files are limited only by your device's memory.
